Brighten Your Space with Cool Scatters

Scatter cushions are one of the most versatile decor accessories: they can change the look of a room in a flash and remain affordable.

Scatter cushions can be rectangular, square, round, bolster, large or small, in fabric that varies from cotton, silk, satin and linen, summer wool, faux suede, fur, and even velvet. They must be as comfy so you could sleep on them as relaxed as compared with taking the best magnesium supplements for sleep

These days, the trend is towards natural linen and cotton, so scatter cushions are more important than ever to add some color and texture to a room.

Scatter cushions are fantastic to brighten up any grey area, and they’re affordable enough for you to experiment. A neutral, light-colored sofa begs for a more luxurious, romantic injection of color – and scatter cushions are the ideal item to make this happen. Remember that just because you choose to have a neutral interior, it doesn’t have to be bland or boring.

You can use six to seven scatters on a three-seater sofa. Not only does this create a striking image, but the cushions can quickly be moved around for the required support and comfort.

Let the size of the cushions you choose dictate the amount you use. On a chunky sofa, you can easily fill the space between and in front of two 60 x 60cm (or larger) cushions by adding a few different sizes; one medium-sized cushion on a stout armchair may need a smaller cushion for perfect symmetry, while an interesting upright chair will look more stately with just one small cushion.

Feel your way around until you find the perfect balance.

Do’s and don’ts

Avoid cushions that all look the same – the aim is to create character and contrast.

There are no rules about what color and pattern you should buy – go for what you like.

Once the furniture has been placed, ask yourself what the room still needs – maybe a scatter cushion is needed to repeat the color or pattern in a Persian rug, mirror, painting or ceramic ornament.

Use scatter cushions to add a touch of texture, flowers and a little bit of bling.

If you use the cushions to prop under your head while watching television, stay away from anything with fine embroidered detail or beads that could easily scratch you.

Seasonal changes

Scatter cushions are the ideal accessory for ringing in seasonal decor changes. Invite summer into your home with the introduction of stunning turquoise, which adds a fresh, cool punch to the room. Smooth textures and more fluid materials, such as satin and cotton, feel soft against the skin. In the red palette, pinks and purples are strong colors; florals are especially popular to add some neutral color. When winter rolls around haul out the throws and winter wool sheets. Winter colors are deeper and more intense – deep, rich reds, purples, and browns, and textures are heavier; velvets and furs are ideal for cozying up and keeping warm.
